ATTENTION, ALL FANS OF SPENCER TRACY AND KATHARINE HEPBURN

Elia Kazan’s THE SEA OF GRASS is now available on dvd to borrow from the Hugh Stouppe Memorial Library of the Heritage United Methodist Church of Ligonier, Pennsylvania. Based on the novel by Pennsylvania native Conrad Richter, the film unites offscreen couple Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn as newlyweds whose contrasting points of view about prairie life lead to tragic consequences. Filmed partly in the Canyon de Chelly, this unusual Western epic drama avoids Hollywood clichés, ending on a decidedly bittersweet note. Kino Ken’s complete review is available to read at the LVCA website, www.lvcinemaassociation.org . The WB dvd comes with two enticing extras: a Theater of Life short live action documentary shot in Mexico but narrated in English, titled GIVE US THE EARTH!, and the classic Oscar®-winning Tom and Jerry cartoon titled THE CAT CONCERTO, featuring a completely depraved rendition of Franz Liszt’s 2nd Hungarian Rhapsody. Enjoy!
